day one.
Well we made it through our first day here in Guatemala City. We arrived here at about 12 and were hounded by taxi drivers as soon as we stepped out of the airport. We decided to take one and headed downtown and walked around with our huge backpacks, as if being american didn't make us stick out enough. We found our way to an internet cafe and found out exactly how to get to the hotel we reserved. Then got back into a cab and arrived at the hotel, which I have to see was such a relief to finally have a base to unload our backs. We talked to the owner and found out about a good place to eat, which was about a 30min walk back downtown, then we couldn't find the place she mentioned but luckily where she led us head a number of restaurants. After eating we tried to find a place to pick up some groceries but after about an hour of walking around all we could find were some small vendors working out of the side of buildings. After asking for peanut butter and being offered a coke instead we decided to simply point to what we needed, we settled with some honey and bread, no peanut butter, they either don't know what we're talking about or they don't have it, which might put an end to the trip all together. We are going to figure out the bus situation, getting to the orphanage and where to meet up and how long it will take and cost etc. tomorrow then head out on Friday. We feel much better after one full day compared to how we did this morning. I will update again soon! Love Eric.

in mexico we said 'crema de cacahuete', but it may be different in guatemala, especially since cacahuete is a very mexican word for peanut...in spain i think they say 'mani' with an accent on the i. i don't know if that helps, but hopefully you will find a grocery store soon. or maybe we could all mail you a jar.
yeah they didn't know what 'cacahuete' was so yeah but don't worry we found some yesterday! pretty exciting huh. it was JIF, in case you were wondering
